Congenital Cardiac Surgery Part I Qualifying (Written) Exam

The Congenital Cardiac Surgery Part I (Written) Examination is designed primarily to assess cognitive skills. The content of the questions on this examination represents uniform coverage of all aspects of the congenital cardiac surgery specialty.

The American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) will administer the 2024 Congenital Cardiac Surgery Part I (Written) Examination in December 2024 in electronic format at Pearson Professional Testing Centers located throughout the United States.

The 2024 examination application period is now closed. If your initial congenital application is approved, you will be notified by ABTS via email. If approved, you will need to register for the Part I (Written) Exam through Pearson Professional Testing Centers. Information on how to register with them will be sent via email. Candidates must also pay the examination fee.

Eligible applicants will receive an email notification when the application period is open for 2025.
